All-girl band The Like tearing it up at the block party!
Last Saturday, we had a blast at the first annual Old Bank District Block Party . Lots of good Vietnamese food (Blossom) good music (The Like, Whispertown 2000, The Afternoons) and some very tasty desserts (Blu L.A.) made my night. Joining Riley and me were my good friends Randie and Anthony, who braved the streets of downtown with us in search of adventure and fun.

Here’s a great way to get involved in the Downtown Artwalk.
Tour bus company Esoutouric– which specializes in unusual and unpredictable rides into the secret heart of our great city– is looking for a a few artistic souls to get onboard the Hippodrome (pictured above), the too-cool-for-school bus that serves as the free shuttle around downtown’s Gallery Row during Art Walk every second Thursday. “Magicians, fortune tellers, acoustic musicians, tellers of tall tales, visual artists, comics, jugglers, clowns, mentalists, mystics” are all welcome.
More info can be found here. So what else are you waiting for? Get on the bus!

Some thoughts on the end of 2007. From T.S. Eliot’s Four Quartets:
Home is where one starts from. As we grow older
The world becomes stranger, the pattern more complicated
Of dead and living. Not the intense moment
Isolated, with no before and after,
But a lifetime burning in every moment
And not the lifetime of one man only
But of old stones that cannot be deciphered.
There is a time for the evening under starlight,
A time for the evening under lamplight
(The evening with the photograph album).
Love is most nearly itself
When here and now cease to matter.
Old men ought to be explorers
Here or there does not matter
We must be still and still moving
Into another intensity
For a further union, a deeper communion
Through the dark cold and the empty desolation,
The wave cry, the wind cry, the vast waters
Of the petrel and the porpoise. In my end is my beginning.
