Day of the Dead 2008

“Let us endeavor so to live that when we come
to die, even the undertaker will be sorry.”
- Mark Twain

Despite the threat of stormy skies, we joined thousands of other Angelenos at the Day of the Dead festivities at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.  I’ve been to the event before, so I knew to expect bad traffic, horrible parking, and large crowds– you know, the usual L.A. fare.  Making it all worthwhile though were the beautifully staged altars and entertaining performances.  I took a few pictures, which you can find here.

In an effor to experience as many new things as possible before I shuffle off this mortal coil, I tried some cerveza michelada for the first time ever. And can I just say now: Who the heck invented this?! Good lord,  I swear I sprouted three new chest hairs — and for an Asian, that’s saying something.

As evening descended, we sat there, drinking beer and munching on nachos, while La Santa Cecilia rocked the main stage. All in all, a good way to live and die in L.A.
